Vijay has embarked on a new political journey, unveiling Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam as his brainchild, stepping into Tamil Nadu's vibrant cinema-politics arena.

The Tamil film star is set to lead the party as its president, with sources indicating that the party's formal registration is imminent.

This strategic move positions Vijay for a political debut in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections rather than the subsequent Lok Sabha polls.

Vijay's registered fan group, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, renowned for its engagement in diverse social welfare initiatives, is undergoing a transformation into a fully-fledged political entity.

Sources close to the actor reveal that the party's influence is anticipated to extend beyond the borders of Tamil Nadu, capitalizing on Vijay's extensive and well-organized fan base in regions like Kerala and Karnataka.

Vijay, as he is affectionately known by his fans in the Tamil cinema industry, is often considered second only to Rajinikanth in mainstream popularity.

Renowned for his reserved demeanor off-screen, the actor's foray into politics marks a significant departure from his established image, heralding a new chapter in his illustrious career.

Vijay is poised to join the league of actor-turned-politicians in Tamil Nadu, following in the footsteps of iconic figures like M G Ramachandran (MGR), Sivaji Ganesan, Jayalalithaa, the late Captain Vijayakanth, and Kamal Hassan.

The decision to enter politics has longstanding ties to his father, film director S A Chandrasekhar, and gained public attention during a student rally in Chennai last June.

Addressing the gathering, Vijay encouraged schoolchildren to dissuade their parents from accepting cash in exchange for votes and urged them to educate themselves about influential leaders such as B R Ambedkar, Periyar E V Ramasamy, and K Kamaraj. This stance sparked widespread debate and further fueled speculations about his political ambitions.

Leaders like Edappadi Palaniswami of AIADMK, Udhayanidhi, and Annamalai have expressed support for his decision, with Seeman viewing Vijay's entry as a catalyst for diverse voices in state politics.

Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam's stated objective is to actively participate in and emerge victorious in the 2026 elections, setting the stage for Vijay's impactful entry into the political landscape.
