Rajiv Gandhi Murder Case Acquittal Santhan Passes Away

Santhan, from the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, passed away at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai after a month of treatment for liver failure.

On Wednesday ,Santhan, a central figure in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, passed away this morning at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. After undergoing treatment for a month, he succumbed to liver failure.

Release and Acquittal

Santhan and others were sentenced to life in prison for the 1991 assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. However the Supreme Court acquitted them in November.

After more than 20 years in prison, Santhan was set free on May 18, 2022.

Health Struggles and Treatment

After getting released, Santhan, who is from Sri Lanka, lived in a special place in Trichy with three other people who were also convicted.

Sadly, he got sick, so he went to Trichy Government Hospital on January. Because his health issues got more complicated, he had to go to Chennai's Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

Legal Processes and Autopsy

Even with a medical care, Santhan died of liver failure. The hospital's Dean, E Theranirajan, confirmed his death and said , "Santhan died due to liver failure, An autopsy will be conducted. Legal arrangements are underway for the body to be sent to Sri Lanka".
