In a heart-wrenching incident on the outskirts of Vadodara city in Gujarat, a picnic turned tragic when a boat carrying 12 students and two teachers capsized at Harni Lake. Fourteen students and both teachers lost their lives, with one student admitted to SSG Hospital.

Despite initial reports suggesting 34 individuals on board, National Disaster Response Force officials continue search and rescue efforts for the four still missing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on social media, announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

PM Modi stated, "Distressed by the loss of lives to a boat capsizing at the Harni lake in Vadodara. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover soon."

President Draupadi Murmu also expressed her grief over the tragedy.

The ill-fated boat, carrying students from New Sunrise School, exceeded its capacity, allowing 34 individuals on board without life jackets. Disaster struck when the boat capsized in the lake's center, leaving students stranded. Police, fire brigade, and Disaster Response Force engaged in a challenging rescue operation, saving 18 students and two teachers. An inquiry has been ordered, and the state government awaits a detailed report within 10 days.

As the nation mourns, families demand answers, questioning the circumstances leading to this devastating tragedy.
