In an unexpected turn of events, the Delhi Development Authority initiated a demolition drive to clear illegal encroachments in the Khazoori khas area of North east Delhi.

Among the houses razed to the ground was the residence of Wakil Hasan, a heroic figure who played a crucial role in rescuing 41 workers trapped in a rat mine landslide in Uttarakhand last year.

Speaking to reporters about the demolition issue, Wakil Hassan said, ``We have been living here for many years. We were not given any advance notice regarding the demolition of the houses. This is the reward we got for rescuing 41 workers at the risk of their lives. The police beat me, my children, and others like me. They made us sit in the police station. I don't know what to do. Death is the only option left."

In response to the allegations, government officials defended the action, claiming that the Delhi Development Authority had provided advance notice to all residents. They emphasized that the land slated for demolition is earmarked for a development project, refuting any wrongdoing.
