Today 'Makkal Needhi Maiam' celebrated its seventh year anniversary. Kamal Hassan felicitated this event in his party office in Alwarpet. He hoisted the flag, gave away the sweets and while addressing his party members he said, "I did not come into politics out of anger. I came into politics out of grief.I came to help my people. My own party members ask me about how people say that I, who act in movies, cannot be a full-time politician. But the truth is, there isn't anyone here who is a full-time politician. I came into politics to pay back the love that people have showered on me unconditionally. I acted in films, paid taxes, did what I could, and fulfilled my duties, but my responsibilities does not end there.I haven't even paid the interest for all the love I have received. To the people who ask why I have not become a full time politician, this flag, this stage I got all of this with my hard earned money, if you think I am being arrogant then I got this arrogance from Periyar"

Kamal Haasan Advocates for Voter Participation and Social Justice

The election commission says that a candidate can spend only Rs 95 lakh. If only Rs 95 lakh is spent, it will only be for Coimbatore South...I didn't lose in Coimbatore because of 1,728 votes but because 90,000 people did not vote there. In India, 40 percent of the people are not voting. If everybody votes, it will make a difference. Until that, an honest candidate who spends Rs 95 lakhs can never win.

Appreciation For DMK's Budget

They said it will be very difficult to make me enter politics. But making me leave politics is going to be harder. My political journey has begun. I will continue to walk with determination. When it comes to the nation's security, political parties come second, the nation comes first. Initially, it's the nation, then my Tamil Nadu, then my language. The central government didn't even do 10% of what Tamil Nadu government has done for the farmers. They are treating the farmers who are protesting in Delhi as if they are enemies of the nation. Iron nails, rubber bullets and tear gas attacks on them is condemnable. The central government takes the South for granted. The one who is in Bihar is also my brother, let them also be good, but my meal should not become their snacks. Everyone should have equal rights. But it is just the beginning, you have traveled a long way with me. But, this is just the beginning. A long journey awaits us.

In response to a question about coalition in speaking to reporters, Kamal Haasan stated, "Good news doesn't come immediately, only bad news does." Continuing, when asked by a journalist about actor Vijay's full-time entry into politics, Kamal Haasan replied, "That's his preference."
