Wipro Chairman Azim Premji Honors AMM Foundation's 'One Rupee Hospital' Legacy at 100

The AMM Foundation, part of the Murugappa Group, marked a significant milestone in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative with the inauguration of the centenary campus building at AMM Hospital, Pallathur, Sivaganga district.

The event, presided over by Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman, celebrated the institution known locally as the 'One Rupee Hospital,' offering quality healthcare to villagers at a nominal charge. The newly inaugurated Centenary Building is equipped with modern diagnostic facilities, including CT scans, enhancing healthcare services.

Under the health wing of the Trust, five hospitals operate across various locations. Additionally, the AMM Foundation manages five educational institutions, providing scholarships for higher education through the AMM Murugappa Chettiar Centenary Scholarship Scheme. The Foundation extends practical science education through Mobile Science Vans and Murugappa Science Centre in Sivagangai and Pudukottai Districts.

A noteworthy initiative of the Foundation is the Murugappa Youth Football Academy, offering world-class sports training to underprivileged communities. The 'Fresh Water' project focuses on water rejuvenation in the Sivagangai area, restoring seven water bodies to date.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, on the occasion, unveiled the coffee table book 'A Century of Service,' commemorating the Foundation's journey. Former Union Minister P Chidambaram received the first copy. A.M. M.V. Subbaiah, former Managing Trustee, welcomed attendees, highlighting the growth of AMM from a small seed sown in 1922 into a charitable organization.

Azim Premji emphasized the importance of taking action, regardless of size, to address the country's significant challenges. P Chidambaram praised the AMM Foundation for its commitment to public service, stating that genuine interest is vital for impactful community engagement.
