Renowned singer and musician Bhavatharini, daughter of the legendary composer Ilayaraja, passed away on Thursday due to an illness, as confirmed by sources within the film industry.
Bhavatharini, aged in her late 40s, breathed her last in Sri Lanka, where she was reportedly undergoing treatment. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, also Puducherry Lt Governor, joined numerous others in expressing their condolences over her demise.
Stalin, in a condolence message, remembered Bhavatharini's National Award-winning contribution to the film 'Bharathy,' a biopic on the national poet Subramanya Bharathy. He noted that her absence would be deeply felt.
Soundararajan acknowledged Bhavatharini's special place in the hearts of the audience, praising her melodious voice. She extended sympathies and condolences to the family of the deceased.
Expressing shock and sorrow, actor Simran wrote on her official handle, "Shocked and saddened by the passing away of Bhavatharini. Sending heartfelt condolences and prayers to Raja sir & Yuvan's family during this difficult time. Om Shanti." Bhavatharini's brothers, musicians Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja, also mourned her loss.
Actor Prasanna expressed his deep sadness, stating, "It's absolutely sickening to know the passing away of #Bhavatharini. My heart goes out to #isaignani Ilayaraja sir and family. May she rest in peace." Bhavatharini had contributed to several musical hits, including lending her voice for her father's compositions.
