Over 90 years, the Department of Archaeology has researched Dwarka's underwater remains. Discoveries between 1963 and 1990 unveiled ancient building foundations, pillars, and water management structures dating from 3000 to 1500 B.C.
In collaboration with Mesagaon Dock, the Gujarat tourism department aims to introduce submarine tourism. A unique submarine, weighing 35 tonnes and accommodating 30 passengers, will offer an unparalleled view of marine life and Dwarka's submerged city.
Tourists, seated in rows with glass windows, can explore marine biodiversity and witness the remnants of Dwarka. The submarine, designed by Mazagon Dock, is set to launch by Diwali 2024, marking India's maiden submarine service.
