In a disturbing revelation, more than 500 students from Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Haryana have collectively written to key authorities, including the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor, and Women's Commission, alleging sexual harassment by a professor. This marks the fourth such complaint, intensifying scrutiny on the university's handling of the matter.
Last year, the students initially reported the issue to the university, triggering an inquiry that found insufficient evidence to support their claims. Subsequent complaints were submitted to the Governor in November and December, leading to an official directive for another university investigation. However, the professor was again declared innocent.
Expressing a loss of faith in the university's ability to address the matter impartially, the students have now escalated their plea to higher authorities. In the detailed letter, they allege inappropriate behavior by the professor, threats of dire consequences for protesting, and intentional destruction of evidence.
In response to the mounting complaints, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by IPS officer Deepti Garg. The SIT is collecting statements and evaluating the veracity of the allegations. The accused professor, denying all charges, attributes them to political motives, emphasizing his willingness to undergo any inquiry.
As the issue gains prominence on social media, the university registrar acknowledges a reconsideration of the matter in light of the large number of complainants. Additional Director General of Police Shrikant Jadhav assures a thorough investigation, emphasizing that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
The students' impassioned plea for justice continues to reverberate, highlighting systemic challenges in addressing such sensitive issues within educational institutions.
