Sportswear giant Adidas is establishing its first Global Capacity Centre (GCC) in Chennai, India, marking a significant move outside of China. The official agreement for this strategic development will be signed during the Global Investors Meet 2024 at the Nandambakkam Trade Centre in Chennai on January 7 and 8.
As global companies increasingly leverage software and technology capabilities in India, Adidas's move to set up the GCC in Chennai is expected to strengthen multinational investments in the region.
Akhil Kapoor, Vice President of GPS Global Procurement and President of GPS India, will play a crucial leadership role in driving the operations of the GCC.
Scheduled to commence operations in the coming months, the GCC will focus on producing shoes for global export, providing employment opportunities for the youth of Tamil Nadu.
Adidas, headquartered in Bavaria, Germany, already has capacity centers worldwide. This move underscores the brand's commitment to expanding its global footprint and tapping into India's diverse talent pool and economic potential.
