The re-release of the film "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya" continues to enjoy success even after 14 years since its initial release.
Directed by Gautham Menon and featuring Simbu and Trisha in lead roles, this romantic drama, with music scored by AR Rahman, celebrated its anniversary recently with a remarkable milestone.
Despite its age, the movie has been running successfully for 750 days in a popular Chennai multiplex, reminiscent of the longevity of Rajinikanth's "Chandramukhi," which ran for over 800 days at Shanthi Theatre.
Madan, one of the producers of the film, shared insights into the making and enduring appeal of "Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaa."
Recalling his journey into film production, Madan mentioned his long-standing friendship with director Gautham Menon, dating back to their college days. It was Gautham's invitation to produce the film that marked Madan's debut as a producer.
Madan attributes the magic of the film to its portrayal of love, particularly the complexities of relationships and breakups, which resonate strongly with audiences even today.
He highlights a scene where the hero, Karthik, reflects on trust and commitment before a breakup, showcasing the film's relevance across generations. Despite initial doubts, Simbu's conviction in the project and Gautham's meticulous direction ensured its eventual status as a cult classic.
From the first day of shooting, Gautham and Simbu became friends. Simbu's costume and hairstyle are all things that Gautham has carved. they're still good friends to this day.
The camaraderie between Gautham Menon and Simbu was pivotal in shaping the film's success, with Gautham's keen eye for detail reflected in Simbu's character portrayal. Additionally, the collaboration with renowned composer AR Rahman, who joined the project through their mutual friendship, added to the film's allure.
"Before producing this film, Gautham and I were to produce a film called 'Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai kalam.' AR Rahman, sir, is the music director. But the film didn't start. It was out of that friendship that Rahman sir came into this film.
It was Gautham who introduced me to Elred Kumar, another producer in this film. This is his first film as a producer. Our VTV host, Ganesh, also joined as a producer. This film is like a picnic. One month we flew to Kerala, the next month to Goa, and the next month abroad" says producer.
