English News Desk

Since the morning of February 2, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been executing searches at the residences of Naam Tamilar Katchi functionaries scattered across Tamil Nadu. This unexpected move has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of the state.

Leaders Targeted and Summoned

The NIA targeted key figures within Naam Tamilar Katchi, raiding the house of NTK leader Sattai Duraimurugan and issuing summons to Idumbavanam Karthi. The sweep extended to more than 10 Naam Tamilar functionaries in southern districts, including Chennai. The NIA's actions were prompted by suspicions of foreign funding and alleged links between Naam Tamilar Katchi and banned organizations in India.

Defiance and Accusations

Functionaries from Naam Tamilar Katchi openly assert that the organization, while promoting LTTE leader Prabhakaran, is not involved in any illicit activities. They contend that the NIA's actions are a consequence of Naam Tamilar Katchi's unyielding political stance against the BJP. Accusations of intimidation by the BJP at the Centre have surfaced, with party members asserting their unwavering commitment to their cause.

Detailed Raids and Summons Issued

In Trichy, a four-member NIA team conducted a three-hour search at Sattai Duraimurugan's residence, issuing a summons before departing. Multiple Naam Tamilar functionaries, including Duraimurugan, have been summoned to appear at the NIA office in Chennai on February 7. Simultaneously, a three-member NIA team raided the residence and studio of Naam Tamilar Katchi state executive Mathivanan at Rayagiri near Sivagiri in Tenkasi district.

Political Standoff and Resilience

The Naam Tamilar Katchi functionaries argue that the organization has been vocal in its opposition to the BJP and has fearlessly addressed issues overlooked by other parties, including the DMK. Despite the NIA's intervention, party members remain defiant, expressing confidence in their chief coordinator, Seeman, and pledging to follow his guidance in response to the summons.
