Subramanian Swamy has claimed that Shah Rukh Khan helped secure the release of eight Indian Navy personnel arrested on espionage charges.
The Qatari government detained eight Indian ex-marines working for a private company called Al Dahra Global Company on suspicion of espionage, sentencing them to death. Following intervention from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the ex-Navy personnel were released yesterday and returned to India.
After their release, former MP Subramanian Swamy stated that actor Shah Rukh Khan played a role in securing the release of the eight Indian Navy personnel arrested on espionage charges. Prime Minister Modi sought Shah Rukh Khan's assistance after the Ministry of External Affairs failed to reach an agreement with Qatari government officials.
Swamy claimed, "That is why the Qatari government came forward to release the naval officers." Shah Rukh Khan's manager, Pooja Dadlani, shared a statement on Instagram refuting Subramanian Swamy's claim. "There are reports suggesting Shah Rukh Khan's involvement in the release of Indian Navy personnel from Qatar. Such claims are baseless.
Government of India officials unequivocally deny this. All matters related to the release of ex-Navy personnel are being managed effectively by capable leaders. Shah Rukh Khan, like many Indians, is pleased to welcome the former naval officers home. We wish them the best of luck."
